Yes, I know it’s supposed to be funny (ho ho). Yes, I know it’s supposed to cram in all that “ooo do you remember that?” nostalgia bollocks… but come on, have you EVER seen real cabin crew wearing shoes like THAT?
And we didn’t have a mobile phone network in the UK until 1985. And that wasn’t Gatwick out of which Mr B’s knackered old leased 747 actually hauled its sorry arse.
I’m just saying.

Yeah, and in 1984 women either a) looked like sour dumplings stood around a burning drum supporting thier men, or b) horses.
Still, I think I prefer to look at these georgous girls……
(and I really don’t care if you think I’m sexist)

Haha. I love it how the captain is all ‘Oooh yeah, I’m so hot.’ It reminds me a bit of Duffman. I do like the music in the background though.

Yeah – but it made me smile, Advert making has the artistic license to rewrite reality a little so – love it.
Sex sells and maybe 20 years ago I might have liked the idea that airplane staff were all that sexy, but being practical – Bet their feet were killing them and they would have to change into flats to actually do their tiring but glamorized waitress jobs. Very hard work.
So no, it didn’t make me think I’d wished that I was doing their job. Of course 24 years on, those girls would be middle aged with children and will be clogging up the National health with their bunion problems in another 20.
The (actor) pilot is gorgeous so there was some eye candy for us girls, but a bit more would have been appreciated and even the score! The other two guys were only shot from the back and their uniforms weren’t as evident. Do I want to fly Virgin Atlantic because of this advert? Not particularly, but thanks for the images!

Both the wife and I think that the ad is very good. Farcical of course with phone technology and the idea that Wimpy burgers were ever that big! Nice “Catch Me If You Can” takeoff

These adverts are disgusting. Although I will note only slightly more sickening than the “stupid husband” ones.
So as long as women all go around striving to be lust objects and men are bumbling idiots who do nothing but drink beer and trip over things (particularly scooters) the nail’s been hit on the head.

Gee Lily, I though I had rage issues. Maybe girls shouldn’t wear nice clothes, or shave their legs, or put on make up, or shower, in fact if we just make everyone wear a veil so they are judged on their actions instead of their appearance, that might work….

Everything is guided by its appearance; what is unseen doesn’t count. Never let yourself get lost in the crowd, then, or buried in oblivion. Stand out. Be conspicuous, at all cost. Make yourself a magnet of attention by appearing larger, more colourful; more mysterious than the bland and timid masses.
Go Virgin !

I love this ad. I agree with Marion. I would love to know who the actor is who plays the pilot. The people who moan about it get real. It’s just an ad Ps The Virgin Hostesses did wear shoes that high. Just not when on the plane

Mmm, to be honest I think people need to take a chill pill? Stick an attractive female on the TV and suddenly it’s sexist and viewing women as objects! The ad is a bit of fun, and is meant to represent the company’s fun and slightly tongue-in-cheek attitudes. It’s meant to show a breath of fresh air and light-heartedness in an otherwise dingy, drab world.
In fact I know lots of crew who wear high-heels until their in the air then change into flats.
This just seems fairly indicative of the wingeing, complaining, litigious culture that ‘modern’ Britain is becoming synonymous with…look the whole Jonathon Ross saga! I’m surprised that every ounce of creativity hasn’t already been snubbed out by this ridiculously stifling attitude.
Perhaps we should all stop being offended so easily just because certain newspapers tell us we ought. Come on, Brits are made of thicker skin than this.
I suppose, in the eyes of the advertisers, most people who’ve written on the forum belong on the drab, gray side of the picture!

respect to ‘macpedro’ (first post at top) virgin should have done a better job on this ad. apart from being a totally annoying advert it is factually incorrect. the first ever mobile phone call wasnt actually made until 1985 and they have a geezer on a mobile at the start were it states 22nd June 1984 ! whats all that about?
likewise Gatwick was the operating airport not Heathrow as is represented in the ad.

Welcome to the 1980′s. Where the ever-intelligent youth of Britain like their blacks dead, their fashion baroque and hideous, their music artificial and inaudible, and their hair overly long and resembling some form of cancerous weed.
Oh and let’s not forget widespread rioting and unemployment for all. Yay! Good times!
