Sony Bravia - Play-Doh Bunny Rabbits
October 10th, 2007I happen to have in front of me a copy of the Sony Bravia’s school report. Yeah, I know, how lucky am I?
Anyways, here’s what it says:
“Sony Bravia started the term very strongly. He showed great imagination and we all hoped his promising start would continue.
As the term progressed we were amazed by his technical aplication of his abilities.
Sadly, of late he has started to get lazier. He has been caught copying other boys and his work seems ponderous and overly long for the sake of it.
Must try harder.”
Shame that.
Regardless of whether they did copy the idea for this advert and regardless of whether Juan Cabral from Fallon knows anything about music (as he revealed in the Independent on Monday) the new Sony Bravia advert with all those Play-Doh bunny rabbits just isn’t as good as the previous two efforts.
It doesn’t capture my attention in the way the Balls and Fireworks advert did.
And why, oh why is there that bit with the ice berg and the whale?
Plus Juan Cabral from Fallon knows nothing about music. “She’s a Rainbow” has a seventies feel? Are you mad, Cabral?
Tsk.

Didn’t Fallon do the Drumming Gorilla advert as well? That was supposedly ‘inspired’ by another advert.

Nice advert, but the first time I saw it I assumed it was a public awareness film about chewing gum messing up the paths.

The person who wrote this stupid and pointless review about their opion of the advert Play-Doh has no imagination what so ever. If you prefer a load of coloured bouncing balls bouncing down a street then you really have no idea about the time and effort it takes to create something in stop-motion! I disagree with every l thing you said. If you are refering to the fact that you believe this advert got its idea from that illustrator guy then you obviously dont know much about anything. Every idea is inspired by someone elses. Thst the way it goes. You are not original as i am not. The advert is awesome, it makes me believe that CGI isn’t taking over the planet. So theres my thoughts on your pointless review.

I loved this advert and the balls one, completely different to other adverts on tv.

Thanks for your comment, Jess.
To answer a couple of your points, I very rarely base my opinion of something on “the time and effort it takes to create something in stop-motion”.
I think that there is a difference between “being inspired by” and “copying”.
And I should, in the defence of TWA, point out that it’s a fairly widely discussed point in the Advertising Industry as to whether Fallon did or didn’t copy the idea.
But really, “stupid and pointless review”?
“Hmm…it caught your attention enough to write about.”

Great ad.
I thought the rabbit looked familiar but couldn’t think why, until I looked in the back of my wife’s knicker drawer. What’s up Doc ?

love the advert, whether its copied or not, but what i find great about the adverts is the music and the colour, and thats really what sony bravia is about ‘colour like no other’, but surely, i am watching those fantastic colours on MY tv, which isnt sony bravia… and the colour stil looks pretty good to me. just a thought.
