Renault Megane – Do You Remember When
12 December 2008 by Silky“Do you remember when you said you’d never buy a Renault?”
No, me neither.
In fact I don’t know anyone who’s ever said that.
What a load of toss.
Thanks to Bryn for submitting this bad ad.

I’ve only ever said I’ll never buy a Renault directly after seeing this advert. First time I saw it I was sure it had to be for Skoda. What are they saying?
“We know you think our cars used to be really shit, but now… they’re not”
I’m very confused.

Lots of people say they’d never buy a Renault, being some of the least reliable cars around… but this advert is designed to ‘shift your preconceptions’. I don’t work for Renault of the advertising company they used.
I think the advert works but then i know that renaults can be shit.

What are they saying to all of us unfortunate people who already own a Renault?
Are they saying “we know the car we sold you a couple of years ago is an unreliable heap of toss; and when we told you it was fantastic, we knew it really wasn’t and were lying through our teeth. We’re now making much better cars. Sucker”
Having been treated to the “Renault Dealer Experience”, I can believe that these thieving, lying, arrogant morons really would take this attitude towards their customers.

The Sebastien Telier song however is great, so should have won eurovision.

I said it once: the conversation went thus:
My Friend: “Phil, what’s one the of the phrases you’re least likely to ever say?”
Me: “I’ll never buy a Renault”
Go figure…

Hehe, yes Phil.
It reminds me of that Harry Hill joke “Never say ‘Never’. Whoops, just said it twice!”

The creatives were right with the never buying a renault concept..buuuuuut, theyve lost it with the rest of the “i’d never”s. What man would say, oh no, never going to own a mobile or computer…??? and it’s cooties, not fleas.pfft
Love the new car ad – attention to detail. think its vauxall? with the fly being edited out.

In 2003 Renault was the 3rd best selling brand in the Uk – last month sales had fallen by 70 odd percent compared to June last year and is now outsold by all the main competition. No one used to say they’d never buy a Renault, but Brits increasingly seem to be doing so now! Does an ad putting down a formerly extremely popular car marque really make sense? Seems not.

Don’t Renault have that very complicated chain cam system on their cars now? A similar one that took Nissan about 18 months to iron out the kinks? I’m not buying a Renault until they make that system perfect, by which time I’ll be too old to drive, so I suppose I’m saying…
Not that I don’t have any confidence in the surrender monkeys’ ability to do complex engineering…
