nothing wrong with being a driving instructor, but stay away from red they always break promises.
And I personally know a trainee who is being charged £200 per week but gets no where near that many pupils to even break even. Red are only interestead in taking your money. Shop around ther are many better companies to train with

Any one out there looking for a new career and considering becoming a driving instructor, then please don’t. I have been in the industry 11 years and for the past 4 years have been ORDIT registered to train new instructors. Last month i gave up my ORDIT badge and will not be training anymore as there simply is not enough work for all the instructors currently on the DSA register. Last week 2 instructors phoned me asking if I was taking on any instructors, the week before a trainee phoned me, she had done her 40 hours training and needed a driving school to take her on but could’nt find one and was thinking about quitting, even before she had started. The week before that 3 instructors called me enquiring about work and I feel bad about turning them away.
The simple truth is that there is not enough work to go around to even think about making a decent living, whatever crap RED driving school come out with. So please any one out there who are considering this career, do your homework first before handing thousands of pounds over to those con artists at RED, if the DSA had any balls they would shut the bastards down NOW!! And if this article saves just one person being ripped off by them then it was well worth writing it, thankyou.

I decided after a family memeber recommended I ‘Google’ Red Driving School that I would cancel my agreement with them as I was not happy with what I found out about them. Understandably I took everything I heard with a pinch of salt, but I wrote a letter a couple of days later to their Head Office to cancel my training anyhow, well within the 7 days they required for a full refund. I also called the gentleman, Gareth, with whom I had done my induction, and spoke to a lady at Red to explain also. However, as soon as I was paid at the end of October, they had taken £1495 out of my account, my entire month’s salary! I have been unable to pay my rent, and now have to wait until they send me a cheque, despite being advised by my bank that they also have their business account with them and could easily arrange a same day transfer. I was unimpressed with the level of ‘service’ from Head Office, and a distinct not-my-problem attitude that I now had no money to go to the supermarket or pay for my daughter’s school meals for the following week. Totally unacceptable, and I am disgusted how large businesses get away with it, when in my own business I would never allow such an error to be made, and bend over backwards to look after my clients and customers. DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS COMPANY, THEIR GREED IS FRANKLY APPALLING.

Further to my post on 21st March – Anyone naive, stupid or daft enougth to hook up with Red be warned! Since that posting 2 Red instructors, one on a pink badge, have called me to ask if we are taking on instructors. The reason they need to change is that neither get enougth work from Red, the poor sod on the pink badge does 8 hours a week and cannot even cover the franchise fee! Please Please Pease Please Please Please Please Please Pease Please Please Please Pease Please Please Please Please Please Pease Please Please Please Pease Please Please Please Please Please Pease Please Please do not sign up with this bunch of conning twats, if you do then don’t say i did not warn you!

I’ve just been watching videos of him on youtube and he’s a blooming good actor and a presenter, so all credit to him, doing his job so well.

I haven’t experienced working for RED so can’t comment on that, but thought I’d defend poor Peter after reading Leon’s post!

My brother fell for this advert, in my opinion its Very misleadling and a rip off! the course is very hard so not all pass, its costs thousands up front and they gave him hardly any work atall while he was training in spite of demanding £80 per week!. Anyway the market is full of driving instructors working for rock bottom prices so even if you pass and manage to get any work you will be a busy fool. I TALK FROM EXPERIENCE IN MY OPINION YOU SHOULD AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Just thought I’d share this with you, opened up my email inbox this morning, decided to delve into my spam folder to filter through the Chinese Spam, offers of cheap watches with a different percentage off in every spam mail oh and don’t forget the emails that tell me that my girlfriend isn’t satisfied with me in bed (except that I’m single)

Among the usual suspects was an email with subject “Your driving record indicates that you could be driving instructor” and guess who it’s from….

Just one thing though, I don’t have a driving history, I’ve never driven in my life and I’ve never held a driving licence, not even a provisional one.

Turns out you don’t actually need to be able to drive in order to be a driving instructor with Red Driving School. I’ll bear that in mind when I finally do get round to learning to drive.

Train to be a driving instructor with RED you must be joking .So far it has taken me 18 months to get to passing part 2.Thank god i have only 1 more part to take ,I think i am looking to pass that in about 1 -10 years time ? As surprise they have not got anybody to train me for another 4 months. Biggest con out i was taken in by them £5,500. poorer . please dont ever go with them.I will have to keep going because i cant give up now ! Go with anybody else but not RED DRIVING SCHOOL.

The same guy is used for another ad i saw once; can anyone remember what it was?? it struck me because whenever they get someone to act as though they have anything to do with a company, as though theyre really really a part of it, and then suddenly used by completely different people… seems odd., and yeah, this particular guy is especially annoying and cringe-worthy, like he is trying not to laugh and later on he’s gonna take the piss with his mates cos he got paid to talk shit for a few mins.

What really puzzle’s me is the fact that the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) allows these criminals to operate! Having read the comments posted above, I do really sympathise with all of these guys who have had the misfortune of being ripped off completely by RED (Dred). I have been qualified for over ten years, but last year i went along (under cover) to one of DRED’s inductions, and oh my god i almost signed up myself because they made it sound so bloody brilliant. If anyone reading this is thinking of becoming a driving instructor thendo it, you have to be prepared to work hard and be messed about alot by some teenagers and their meddling parents, but it really is quite a good and sometimes rewarding career. As far as the training goes, talk to as many driving schools as you can, find out as much info as your brain can cope with, and whatever you do, do not pay up front for any of it! Part one you can do on your own at home, just get the ADI starter pack from DSA, a CRB check will be required before you can proceed. You need the Driving Manual, Driving Instructors Handbook, Highway Code and the CD with the questions on and Hazard perception clips, (and lots of study). This will cost you about £50, and the exam is currently £90. When you pass this you can start your part 2 course, in fact you can start these before passing part one if you want, just find a good local instructor and have as many lessons as you need, dont be surprised if these lessons are dear but they should be around £30 per hour, the part 2 test is £111. Get these two parts completed before embarking on part three, and swot up in the Instructor Handbook beforehand. These lessons can be really hard to start off with but they do get easier. But if you want proper training don’t even think that these 40 hours can be done in a bloody week, that is a load of bollocks that DRED tell you to do. You will have to complete 40 hours training in this part, and every hour of the training is vital. I myself train instructors and i am ORDIT registered with the DSA, i consider myself to be a very good trainer because i work extremely hard with my trainee’s, i have had trainee’s train with me who have completed their so called 40 hours with DRED, and they are just a joke and after about ten minutes they know that, one of them advised me that some of their training consisted of 3 hours of photocopying diagrams. RED are a disgrace to my industry and should be closed down now>
