Lambrini – Do the Lambrini

1 October 2007 by Silky

I’ve started my descent into middle age.

I listen to Radio 2, I wear slippers and haven’t been to a night club since, if I remember rightly, just before decimalisation (or shortly there after).

The main reason for not having been to a night club for so long is because I like to go to bed at 9pm. And I don’t like loud music. And I don’t like dancing. And I don’t like young people. And I especially don’t like young people dancing to loud music after 9pm.

So when I first saw the new Lambrini advert, I hated it.

It reminded me of a combination between the Beck’s 4 step advert and the K-Swiss 2 drummers advert.

But it is so much worse.

This advert is desperately targeted at the youth-end of the alcohol buying public (please note – no slanderous “Lambrini is only drunk on park benches by under-aged girls” comments were made in the writing of this post) and desperate for the dance to become a dance-floor sensation:

So desperate are Lambrini for their dance to become a nation-wide phenomenon that they even teach you how to “do the moves” on their web site.

Of course, I suspect that if you attempt to do the extremely vigorous dance with half a bottle of Lambrini in your gut you’ll be feeding the foxes before you even make it to The Cherry (that’s step 2 from the dance, fact fans).

I bet though that this advert is going to be very popular and that Lambrini will claim it was quite successful for them.

But it won’t be the aspiration 20-somethings featured in the advert that will be buying their drink. It will be the same people as ever, but now wrongly thinking that they’re aspiration 20-somethings as they dance around the park benches and the pools of vomit from the previous weekends drinking.

So surely the last slogan “Lambrini Girls just want to have fun” is closer to the reality of Lambrini drinkers.

Well, I’ve now watched this video four times and can’t find much wrong with it (except that I’m missing University Challenge).

If I were to give any advice to young women attempting this dance at the disco it would be this – wear a sports bra! (Actually it would be don’t wear a bra at all but that’s not advice, it’s dirty old man talk).

I like this advert as it has a great northern soul-esque tune to it and it just doesn’t patronise. It’s a load of people (obviously professional dancers) who are having a good time dancing to great music. No-where is there any “But this product and you’ll be irresistable” or any annoying “trying to be sexy” voice-over.

i think this advet is brill! it shows friendship and girls bonding and having fun in many different situations. me and my sis are totally like that, we can be just getting up in the morning feeling really tired, looking like a girl does first thing, put on some music and just dance like away to make ourselves laugh and wake up! its makes you wanna move and dance

it totally appeals to the 20 something (im 23) women, although i must say im not a fan of the drink and do not associate drinking that much and doing the dance.

I LOVE THIS AD, CALL IT SAD BUT I FOUND THIS POST WHEN LOOKING FOR THE LAMBRINI WEBSITE. I DON’T DRINK MUCH AS I’M MORE OF A SMOKER & IM 22. I AGREE THAT MOST LAMBRINI DRINKERS PROBABLY R THE YOUNGER GENERATION BUT THATS ONLY COS IT SO CHEAP. I DON’T SEE WHAT WRONG WITH THEM WANTING A DANCE FLOOR SENSATION AND I DON’T SEE WHY IT SHOULDN’T BE. AS THEY SAY ‘Lambrini is all about a celebration of being female, carefree, and up for some fun.’ Y NOT! LIFES TOO SHORT. IT ANNOYS ME THAT RANDOMS ARE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT DAMAGING THEIR REP COS ‘THEY’VE BEEN SAD ENOUGH TO DANCE THE LAMBRINI’ THAN ACTULLY HAVING A BIT OF FUN!
IM OFF TO LEARN THE MOVES & DO JUST THAT! OHH AND I LOVE THE TUNE ITS CATCHY! L8R

The so called “Do the lambrini” is a version of Jumpstyle taken and modified. While the “creator” of the Lambrini says its an original style she is wrong.

Youtube Jumpstyle and check it out. Also:

I love this advert and love the tune – but what is it called – I’d like to add it to my ipod. May even try out the dance moves too!

just me or is it kind of dangerous for those three surgeon to be pissed while apparently on shift?

  • Said on the 28 July 2008

Those dancing surgeons are especially dodgy considering they’re doing their dance in the first-floor corridor of Manchester Metropolitan Universitiy’s John Dalton building, which, by the way – has bugger all to do with medicine, surgery and/or drinking….

It’s called fun. I think you’re just bitter because you’ve tried your hardest and can’t do it. Am I right?

I love this advert even from the first time I saw it. The music is great too and it just makes you want to get up and dance as well. I haven’t been to a night club for a while, but I certainly miss those dancing days and would happily do the Lambrini dance any day the music is palying on a night out. It reminds just how great fun nights out can be and even makes you feel young again.
