The claims made by cosmetics companies are often rebuked AFTER the advertising campaign has already run. There was an article in Private Eye recently saying that advertising standards only deal with misleading claims after they have already being made, so there's plenty of scope for the cosmetics industry to make wild claims about their products, get a slap on the wrists by the ASA and a, say, £50,000 fine, but they've already sold £5million worth of the product by the time this happens! Great satire there.
