Fiat – Grande Punto – Trampoline

16 March 2009 by Silky

I realise that this is a bit of an old one but I thought as I’ve added the new Visa advert with Bill Shannon simply becuse it’s a carbon copy it would be unfair not to include this effort from Fiat.

And if anything this advert for the Fiat Grande Punto is an ever bigger offender against all things worthy – a.k.a. taking a work of art and using it to make some quick and drity cash – then the Visa one is. Fiat even go so far as to use the same bloody music!

Anway don’t listen to me, judge for yourself:

Fiat Grande Punto Trampoline

Rip off yes, but at least they would have got a bucket load of cash from Fiat. They could have said no.

Yeah, that’s a fair point MacPedro, I’m sure that Roel didn’t have a gun put to his head by Fiat. I expect they simply made him an offer he couldn’t refuse etc etc etc.

You’ve only got to go as far as Tom Waits to see how much money can be made by retaining your integrity and refusing to allow your work to be used.

However, isn’t a large portion of advertising tapping into the current Zeitgeist and bandwaggoning something before the masses latch on.

Personally I didn’t know that this advert was a rip, so it kinda worked here (although I haven’t bought a Fiat). I didn’t know the VISA one was copied, but assumed it had been, since it was quite abstract.

I did know that the Barocca (spelling?) treadmill ads, and the Sugar Puffs Honey Monster and bloke in pyjamas rapping were pastiches, and came over all elitist, but then so what?

If you’re saying that the act of taking something popular in a small sector, repackaging it and putting it in front of the masses is not on, then you can write off pretty much the entire music industry.

Still don’t like the ad though, but to be honest, I hadn’t really noticed it at all.

It’s hardly a ‘rip off’, they would have paid to use it.

erm.. I might be being a bit of a cock but who the fuck is Tom Waits?

    I suppose I could google the name but I can’t be arsed…

fiat ad would be improved by having a couple shagging inside while its bouncing up and down on the trampoline.
