I agree with most of you guys but I have two points, maybe trying to stay positive:
- In these quite difficult times, I like to see that some people take jobs that are not always cool to do (yes, I know, he probably does not need the money at all, just pretend he does),
- I was searching for info on where his paycheck would end up: Maybe he did this in a close relationship with Unicef? You’re right to mention that it has to do with his adventure on Long Way Round/Down, maybe he gives his check to related charities? Who knows…

Bottom line is that the ad is lame I give you that, but it kinds makes me want to spend a night with him… I don’t care crap about the product he is trying to sell, so it’s all happy I guess

What annoys me the most is in Ewan’s first round the world trip he talks about his disillusion with the ‘shallow’ western corporate world. Then 5 minutes later he’s selling his adventure ideals to a perfume company. That is the very definition of selling out.

The thing you have to realise is for every A-list celeb that does an ad, there must be many others who turn them down. Celebs can just about get away with it if they stick to photographic fashion modeling ad campaigns. As soon as you start doing tv ads for mundane things like poncy coffee makers (Mr. Clooney), your credibility suffers. And if you really must, do it on the other side of the world (Japan). The Governator has made a fortune over there and most people haven’t seen those ads, they are beyond hilarious.

The narative is just so cheesy, I cringe everytime I see it. I can think of a way to make it better. Ewan riding through Mongolia: sand, desert, rocks and dust. He pulls over sits in the dust wipes sweat from his brow. A yak appears from the dust and turns around presents its rear to Ewan, Ewan produces the perfume from his pocket, sprays the yaks bottom, mounts his bike and rides into the sunset.

I’m not sure why everyone has got their proverbial panties in a bunch. Google the terms ‘long way down’ and ‘long way around’ and you’ll see where the commercial theme was based on. Based on those two documentaries that he was in, it’s a great way to capture the commercial.

Just watching the Long Way Round for the first time ever. I really hoped that Ewan was promoting this aftershave in order to give the proceeds to Unicef and nothing else. Sadly this does not seem to be the case, if it were then I could forgive the cheesey advert. Surely having seen the work that this fantastic charity does Ewan could support them in this way.
