Cadbury’s Dairy Milk – Dancing Eyebrows
25 January 2009 by SilkyIn TV’s Worst Adverts’ role as a public servant, or some shit like that, here’s another potentially contentious Bad Ad submission. This one comes from TWA regular CovertJellyFish:
Hmmm… Let me make one thing absolutely clear to all advertising executives. CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE SEEN ON TV.
If you have to have children on tv then you need to follow two rules:
1) DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PICK UGLY CHILDREN.
2) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE THEM ENTERTAINING IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM.
Yes, after last year’s Drumming Gorilla and Trucks, Cadbury’s are back with a new Glass and a Half Full Productions advert – Body-Popping Eyebrows.
Unlike CovertJellyFish, I’m glad these kids are on our TV’s (beats watching talking animals at least).
I’m down with the electro-funk groove (Don’t Stop the Rock by Freestyle, in case you’re interested) and despite finding 2 gawky-looking kids staring at me – without blinking once! – for a whole minute just a little unnerving, when the girl pulls out the balloon, I can’t help but smile.
So go on, get voting and tell us what you think – Is it as tub-thumpingly good as the Gorilla or is it another Truck shaped, festering turd?

I dunno, it was amusingly eerie at first, but I can imagine seeing it again and again will really unnerve me. Especially the girl. The lad looks like he’ll grow up to look like Chris Benoit also, I think!
I agree with that guy, child actors should never be allowed in the media, unless they’re like the following people:
Mcauley Culkin
Haley Joel Osment
Jesse James
Noah Gray Cabey.
Thats it!

This has to be the funniest advert for over 20 years. I can’t stop watching it over and over again. The little girl cracks me up every time. If this isn’t the start of a phenomonen then this country is really sliding into an abyss of miserable old farts!!

Not an awful advert, but once again the ad man steals a good idea off of someone hosting it for free on Youtube. A japanese electronics student did this, attaching electrodes to his face to stimulate the muscles in time to music. Not a bad advert really, but a rip off, and it possibly involved the electrocution of minors!
CovertJellyfish
Said on the 26 January 2009
“possibly involved the electrocution of minors!” I can but hope…
“The lad looks like he’ll grow up to look like Chris Benoit” Possibly due to aforementioned electrocution….
Now regarding Macauley Culkin… See Rule 2 and Noah Gray Cabey… See Rule 1
Thanks for the warm welcome Silky It’s a really good site and lots of fun… Hope the ad-men are paying you for fixing their broken wheels….

This ad is soooo irritating. I turn it off the moment it starts. On the plus side its helped the diet as I would no longer dream of buying Cadburys Dairy Milk!

Said on the 4 February 2009
I’m just sick of adverts that are completely random and have nothing to do with the product in question and cadbury’s have been doing it for too long now. What does any of that have to do with chocolate? Why would that advert make me want to buy chocolate? It doesn’t.
I’m not saying random shouldn’t be in adverts, just saying it should also be telling you about the product and making you want it, just like in the “bring on the trumpets” advert, good old natural confectionary company. The random part of that advert made you remember it, but you also remember that they’re sweets are made from natural colours and flavours.

It’s stupid.
Ever since they scored a hit with the surreal gorilla advert, they seem to be now making purposely “weird” adverts to try to capture the original’s success.
But like they say, lightning never strikes twice.
Random, stupid and pointless. And worst of all, not at all funny or edgy.

It’s not even their idea, so if Cadbury want me to be impressed with their incredibly creative artistic vision, they’re barking up the wrong tree. It’s as inane as that stupid gorilla. At least when advertisers stole from Joel Veitch they were forced to fork over some cash for it after the fact.

Damn creepy and frightening..my kids are scrared by this and now everytime they see purple coloured wrapped chocolate it brings back images of that cold, lifeless little girl who looks like shes just been dug up or and extra from the movie, Children Of The Dammed.

Ive heard that some people actually find this repellent advert ” funny ” … what will Cadburys do next? car accidents or plane crashes ? anything as long as its probally expensive and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Being a Fire Officer Ive seen some scary things but those kids make my flesh creep..where they from? Planet X?
I couldnt stomach anything from Cadburys again, the very though of that advert and those creepy eyebrows is too much!

There goes my love of Cadburys Chocolate…now wheres my Mars Bar?

Said on the 20 February 2009
NO NO NO! whoever dreamt this up should be sent to Broadmoor..its as bad as a car advert in the way its so irrelvant for what its trying to sell. You have that brain dead Ford Focus advert with some musicians playing music on car parts! I want to know what that car does ! I can play music on empty drink bottles… Same principle here.. what do two demonic possessed kids with 70s clothing and hairstyles have to do with brand awareness? reading peoples comments it actually distracts people from buying Cadburys products….

I work in a school and one of the Year Six girls looks exactly like the girl in this advert, but with shorter hair. She is the class’s School Council Representative (and basically has the authority of a prefect) and the other kids are terrified of her. These two look like a cross between “Scanners,” “Village of the Damned” and “Children of the Corn.” I wonder where the ad agency came up with them? They could have amazing careers ahead in the style of Lon Chaney – playing the monster in horror movies without ever needing makeup.

You think the next ad will show him drilling a hole in his own forehead “just to let the voices out” before he goes on a chocolate fuelled killing spree, beating men in gorilla suits to death with their own drumsticks, and chasing down holidaymakers with a set of stairs on wheels? Yeah, and then you could have that guy from CSI Miami looking at picture of the little girl and saying in his coolest comment voice “She’s Fugly, let’s go for a beer instead.”
I mean, I’m just saying, that’s all….

Obviously those poor children are on some NHS waiting list for treatment and Cadburys are using them for our amusement. What a bad and sad world we live in. On the bright side , ugly weird children grow up into ugly weird adults and everyone knows that if you have an ugly weird friend you’ll look a lot prettier and people will think you’re a really nice person for spending time with them and everyone will love you.

i like this ad, but it’s all about the balloon, the one’s without the balloon are…i dunno missing the punch line.
i’m not all that keen on the eyebrow dancing but i suppose you need that to get to the balloon bit – and the boy just might as well not be there at all. just needs the girl sitting there spookily looking into camera, eyebrow dancing no sideways shot, cut to balloon.
i should make adverts me, well at least edit them. or maybe just shout at advertising agencies from the street

I personally dont like the ad, and this one and the other two what the hell has it got to do with selling chocolate, I think the Ad agency are on to a good thing here, you can imagine it at the board meeting some wacko walks in and starts coming up with some stupid idea he dreamt up the night before, but noone actually confronts them to say what the hell has it got to do with chocolate, they just agree sign a cheque for 2million and leave. I work with adults with learning difficulties and when i asked my colleague infront of a client would you actually know what they were advertising if you didn’t klnow what Cadburys was, with this my client said “I think they are selling balloons” Excellent! I did laugh

At first I naturally assumed this was an ad for Ritalin, but then I realised you can’t advertise that, so I guessed it must be for Epilim (sodium valproate), but I was wrong, “must be a new kiddie sized unwanted eyebrow hari removal product” but, nope, wrong again.
What are the dudes at cadbury’s on? No, really, put it in the chocolate, dude!
Awful, godawful ad for a very non-godawful chocolate, which I will continue to eat DESPITE not because of this ad. At least the “Wouldn’t it be nice” ads had something to do with actually eating and enjoying chocolate.
Only one thing intrigues me – as I’m sure electrocuting kids isn’t allowed – how in the name of all that is brown and sticky did they DO that!!!!!

This pisses me off so badly I want to kill every single person that’s in the room with me when this advert comes on, just so I don’t have to cringe in a room full of usually intelligent people who stare blankly at the screen every time this poxy fucking pointless, shitty advert comes on.
2 freaky looking children wiggling their eyebrows up and down is about as funny as an orphanage burning down and has fuck all to do with a bar of chocolate.
In fact, kids are not something I want to think about when thinking about eating chocolate, cause all it reminds me of are hyperactive, overweight children with diabetes – getting all glazed over and crawly when they discover I have some chocolate that I am trying to discretely eat, without them putting fingers that have been up their noses/arses all day onto my Dairy Milk.
Fuck off Cadburys – your adverts are shit.

Stacey
Said on the 25 June 2009
You dont need to be a professional to know about advertising, its basically common sense.
Throw in a jingle, catch phrase or a theme that is memorable
Have a unique idea
Advertise it where your target audience is most likely to see it
And make sure that you dont spend too much money advertising that you end up spending more than you earn….
CovertJellyfish
Said on the 25 June 2009
I created those rules in attempt to save advertising bosses from having to be stood next to the politicians when the revolution comes, however if you wish to irritate everyone to the point of them wanting to poke your eyeballs out with a stale dog turd, please be my guest….

AHHHHH I think you lot have no sense of humour or sense of uniqueness… who cares what the kiddies look like? do you want another scrawny bimbo to sell the product? or a handsome Plonker? Whats wrong with getting two ordinary kids who look far more like the average kid than a brushed up model of any sorts? really… its just chocolate. When it comes down to it we all love chocolate. dont deny it. and if you dont like chocolate then dont watch it.
