Bradford and Bingley - Fragile Dreams
6 April 2007 by Silky“Aren’t hopes and dreams fragile?” asks the trainee caramel bunny fully grown woman in a child-like, half-whisper over the top of a lullaby.
Thus begins the new Bradford and Bingley mortgage advert and there’s only one word for it: cute. In fact it rams so much “cute” down your neck, if you watch it once you’ll be shitting “adorable” turds for weeks.
But there’s something about this advert that I find incredibly disturbing. Adults pretending to be children is just so very wrong. Worse even than children pretending to be adults.
I just hope this doesn’t begin a trend in which advertisers use man-child actors to tells us to buy their stuff. When you’re a kid you spend your life being told what to do by adults. Now I’ve made it to adulthood, I don’t want to be told what to do by kids!
So stop shrugging and squashing up your lovely little button nose! I do not want a place in the country. (Secretly I’m desperate for a place in the country but that undermines my disgust at this advert)
On a personal note: I once rented a house of Bradford and Bingley when I was at Uni. Even though I nearly burnt the whole house down we were still better tenants than they were property managers.
(Shrugging-shoulders, squashing noes, half-whispering) That’s not to say that their mortgages are any more rubbish than anyone else though.

I am absolutely disgusted by this advert the chap who put this last post in made a reference to it but didn’t highlight the main point - the advert starts “Aren’t hopes and dreams fragile?†a train then blows everybodys hope and dreams away as it speeds past and she states “no wonder most come to nothing” without including my previous posters reference to a child like narrator what sort of message is this to give to the masses, to the men and women on this world who’s only reason for living is hope, the people who should be inspired by their goverment but are left to be guided by fake idols shrouded in celebrity whilst parliment hide from the media inches, And this cherub like actress struts around the stage and dashes, violently physically dashes peoples hope and dreams on prime time. I as an individual utilising my most affective medium urge you and beg you as the masses who live along side me to raise our voice and demand that this advert be removed from air. I really think you lot are tragic. This is an advertising campaign that is in no way personally affecting your abilities to live your sad over-sensitive lives. The fact that you are on this page writing this tripe suggests to me that Bradford and Bingley ad or not, you are seriously in need of some hopes and dreams anyway. I worry that people like you take these TONGUE IN CHEEK adverts so seriously when they are clearly referring to selling you a mortgage. The ad is a homage to the film Amelie - it was pitched this way, its been delivered this way. Most of us get it. The actress involved isn’t selling it with explicit or implicit sexual innuendos like the other ads this is sandwiched between. Nor is she actually in charge of what she has to read from the script or how she has to move: The directors and producers are, so blame them not a girl who comes in and gets paid to do as she’s told.
I think they are bang on that some people cannot afford mortgages let alone internet bills that are wasted by over-privileged bores like you in forums about TELEVISION (NOT REALITY) ADVERTISING SCRIPTS. the property ladder IS something people hope to get onto and not all can.
you appear to be “speaking” on behalf of the innocent people who would be affected negatively by this ad - surely such innocent people with such a fragile state of mind would be classes as the very “man-children” you claim to detest. You don’t actually seem to really know what you’re ranting about. Stop blaming television, which you clearly thrive off being part of a ‘community’ such as this, for all your emotional shortcomings. They’re not out to get you or break your spirit…it is just as corrupt as any other medium in this world including your beloved internet forums. Start connecting with the real world and stop acting like these characters are actual people who are criticising you.

I completely agree.
The woman’s child-like impression is disturbing and don’t even get me started on the hat.
